Dear Century Stars and Parents,

WHEW…the countdown is on!  It’s amazing that May has so quickly come upon us!  We’ve had a FANTASTIC carnival this past Friday.  Our PTA is amazing and we appreciate everyone’s hard work and effort in pulling off such a fun event.  We’re grateful for everyone’s generous donations, contributions and purchases!  Century’s blessed to have such caring communities.

We’re looking forward to several field trips this month.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather on field trip days!  We love being able to extend learning outside of the classroom, but want every child to be comfortable.

Our school’s pentathlon will be held on the 15th, weather permitting.  The 4th and 5th graders are very excited about participating. Several classes are practicing during PE and working hard to be prepared for the events.

Our end-of-year awards assemblies will be held during the last week of school.  We will notify you closer to that time with a more solid schedule.  We’re trying to work in a couple of special events that week and will let you know in the Tuesday folder the assembly schedules.

The last day of school will be held on the 30th.  It will be a minimum day.  No kindergarten will be held that day and school will be dismissed at 12:00 noon.  Lunch and breakfast will not be served on the last day of school.

In lieu of summer school, we used this year’s remediation budget to pay for ongoing small group instructional aides throughout the school year.  This decision has made a huge impact on student success.  However, if, by chance, you are interested in having your child receive tutoring during the summer, be looking for additional information later in the month with names of tutors that you could contact.

Please make sure as the year winds up that your child has returned all of his/her books to the library, take home library and bookmobile.  It is also appreciated if all lunch accounts are current.

Again, we thank everyone for a fantastic year!  It’s been a year of changes, but one of much progress.  We continue to have the best students, and that’s because they have wonderful families.  Thanks for being great parents!  I appreciate each member of our staff, our PTA, our volunteers, our communities and parents, and students.  Century is definitely a wonderful place!  Have an enjoyable summer with your children and we’ll see you next fall!

Happy summer!

-Mrs. Shaffer
