IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR REUNIFICATION DRILL ON MAY 18th
Dear Golden Spike Families,
On Monday, May 18th, Golden Spike Elementary will conduct a required reunification drill. This drill is an important part of our Standard Response Protocol and Standard Reunification Method, which are critical elements of our overall safety plan. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and this practice will help us prepare for a variety of situations such as severe weather, power outages, or hazardous material incidents.
Why Are We Doing This?
Reunification is an essential part of our school safety plan and required by the State. In the event of an emergency we must ensure we can reunite students with their families in a safe, organized way. This exercise will help us refine and improve the process, ensuring we are well-prepared should a real event occur. Our goal is to make sure your children understand that this is a learning exercise and not something to fear.
What to Expect:
All students will need to be picked up by a verified adult. No buses will be running that afternoon. Students that usually walk home will not be excused to walk that day.
At some point in the day, parents and families will receive a call and/or text announcing the start of the reunification drill and the location of the reunification.
The reunification process involves families picking up their children from school in a safe, controlled manner.
Staff will be on-site to direct you. Families will be asked to fill out a reunification card and return it to staff. Please remember to bring a PHOTO ID for verification, and you must be listed as an approved pickup person in our school system.
After filling out the reunification card, families should remain in their cars and wait for further instruction.
Early Pick-up Option:
If you do not wish to participate in the drill, you are welcome to pick up your student early. All early pick-ups must be completed by 10:50 AM.
We appreciate your support and patience as we work together to make our school community safer for everyone. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the school.
